Notion AI started as a simple AI writing assistant but by 2026 has grown into a full autonomous teammate. With Notion 3.0 (released September 2025), AI Agents were introduced — capable of running multi-step tasks for up to 20 minutes without supervision. Standard agents handle things like building project plans from scattered notes, compiling user feedback across multiple databases, drafting status reports, or updating hundreds of database entries at once.

Custom Agents, which went live in May 2026, add trigger-based automation on top of the standard agents. These run on a separate credit system: $10 per 1,000 credits, pooled across the workspace, reset monthly, with no rollover.

The meeting transcription feature integrates with Notion Calendar without a bot, capturing audio from Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams, transcribing in 16 languages, and automatically extracting action items with assignees.

For models, users can pick between Claude, GPT, Gemini, Grok, Kimi, and DeepSeek, or use "Auto" mode to let Notion pick the best model per task.

Who it's for: teams that use Notion as their primary knowledge base and spend their day in documents, databases, and cross-functional communication get the most value. Teams whose core need is structured task management or real-time operational data are a weaker fit.

Security, compliance, and pricing evolution

Notion AI's Enterprise tier uses zero-retention APIs, meaning data is deleted immediately after processing rather than stored or used for training. The product is covered under Notion's SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001 certifications, and customer data is not used to train underlying models by default — a distinction that matters for teams handling sensitive internal documents.

Pricing has shifted significantly since launch. Notion AI began in 2024 as a flat $10/member/month add-on available on every plan, including Free. That model was retired in early 2026, when full AI access was folded exclusively into the Business and Enterprise tiers. For teams that previously paid the lower add-on price just for AI writing help, this means the practical entry point for serious AI use is now the $20/user/month Business plan, with Custom Agent credits billed as a separate line item on top.
